This course will equip you to become an effective and confident pastoral care practitioner, chaplain, campus minister or lay worker in the Catholic tradition. Explore the theory and practice of pastoral care. Dig deeper into Scripture and Catholic faith. Gain insight, skills and confidence to offer pastoral care to others in your organisation or community.

What will you learn?

This course can be completed in one year or over two years and is completed in four self-contained modules:

The Bible is a journey into faith. In this module, explore biblical themes, and gain practical tips for using and interpreting the Bible.

Understand the Catholic Church better by exploring its history, teachings, and modern expressions. Learn what sets it apart from other denominations and the important role of the Creed and the sacraments in shaping spirituality within the Catholic context.

Explore ethics and character. Learn how to think about today’s big issues ethically. See how the Catholic Church handles social topics. Explore other world religions.

Designed for those engaged in pastoral care ministry, including pastoral care practitioners, chaplains, campus ministers and those offering pastoral care in a parish context.

Each module involves approximately 12 weeks of structured learning that integrate an opportunity to engage with the learning material provided and participate in workshops and tutorials. You will commence with Module 4 and complete the remaining three Modules concurrently or subsequently, and can complete these in order.
